Any investor is measured by the portfolio they have built. But you obvious have a great portfolio. How have you guys been able to build it? What’s the unique way of doing that?

Aaron VanDevender:

I think it’s largely are unique world view. Someone will get attribute to our network that we built, through our earlier portfolio companies that the companies we have founded and the alumni from that have gone on to found many others, and so we do have a very strong network that way.

But I think at the end of the day when we actually make decisions, to have a real good portfolio you have to first at the deal for you. You have to see the deals you have to be able to end the deals. You have to choose the right ones. You can’t have to get all three parts of those to work. So having the right network, it’s pretty good for being able to see everything. And then our reputation has been very founder-friendly, so the reason why we named ourselves Founders Fund is because we truly believe we want to support the best entrepreneurs.

I love that. I am a founder, I love founder-friendly investors. I will remember that, next time when I need to raise my next round, I will go for you.

Aaron VanDevender:

In our history we never fired a founder or CEO.

Great, I will have my job security. Thank you.

Aaron VanDevender:

We always back the founders. Sometime that means that if the company is not doing well, where some VCs might try and like restructure. Our thinking is our time and money is better sensed and been, just walking away from that and focusing on the company that are really doing well that have the really most amazing founders. So we always try to double down on the best founders.

Leave the best founders alone.

Aaron VanDevender:

The best founders who could take money from anyone would see that and would choose to work with us. That reputation sort of get us into the best deals. And in the last part of knowing which one to take is mostly about our world view.

And that we are not momentum investors. We don’t go with the crowd, we also don’t go against the crowd just to be contrary for its own sake. We think things through for ourselves from first principles and make decisions based on that. That seems in the long run worked very well. Sometime we do things that seems very weird or surprising, but that tends to be the company that are sort of category of one, sort of things that define new market segments that no one is coming.
