One day very soon, let’s go away together, only you and me. Set aside all the hustle and bustle of the daily routine, regardless of all the trivil work, only for one hour, one day. If I can , shall we?

This sounds like running away, not the words with keen emotions, or something like advertisement. This is a simple paper-cut work called Can We, Shall We?

Maybe everyone has the thing that has always been thinking about, then one day you do it. This is what the work is about, and the reason why so many people associated with it.

The creater of this work is not a sentimental girl as we have imagined but a middle-age “uncle” with full beard. His name is Robert Ryan who comes from London. Paper-cutting is his favorite hobby, and each of his work is telling a warm story with exquisite handicraft.

This is a story about two people separated. In this work, they cannot meet each other, but when you look at the sky, they are in the same moment with the same moon. This is resource of their slight emotion, which is like a bond of the two hearts combining the lonely souls tight together. As onlookers, what we can see now is not only the peaceful moment, but also the protagonists’ sincere emotion.

This is a commision for a piece of work in New York Grand Central Station. In the station, people are always rushing around and obsessed with time. While this work is to stop the negative definitions on time, but to regard time as a fabulous traveling. Only in this way can we grasp every moment in life and fulfill it.

Paper-cutting is not that difficult, the hardest part is drawing. Thinking, designing, and overturning, this is not only times of rebirthes of a work, but more about the process of cultivating oneself. Every artist is a dream-maker, this is something about how you see this world. Only the people who really understand the true values of life can be able to fully appreciate how the unique and special the ordinary is.

For Robert, creating is not only about making things and hanging them on the wall, he wants his works to live in people’s life. Opinions differ from people, while the good works are the ones which can express emotions of the creater as well as associating with others. Creaters are not lonely, because all the works in front, are loved by each appreciator.
